Soliloquies Anthology 30.1

There are certain buildings that are constructed in the perfect place, where we can find comfort and beauty in nature – it is not out of reach. As the sun falls through giant, floor to ceiling windows, it warms an otherwise dark, confined room. 

This quiet, unassuming allurement, slices through darkness, illuminating our path as we move through  the day. Although it can’t be compared to the grandeur of a sunrise; an artist’s palette of ruby, gold, rose quartz, and amber in the sky. 

Sunlight itself, caught within glass, is intimate. 

The bright beams are shaped by the surroundings, softening the world and reminding us of how light so quickly transforms ordinary, day to day spaces, into a moment of calm and wonder. 

As the sun passes through a window, nature becomes personified. Dust becomes visible, adding texture and the image of  a constellation. Curtains scatter the light, creating shadows dancing across the floor and walls, where a space becomes a canvas. 

The natural world seeps into that which is human-made. 

This reminds us that nature is always there, our silent cheerleader, gently reminding us of our own brightness and self, a comforting hug early in the morning. 

As that first sunbeam dances through the window, it brings us a new beginning. A new day, a new chance, freshness, and possibility. In the morning, as the light turns to gold, it stretches across the room, promising us rest in the evening. As the hours go by, the light shows us how time passes – we are a part of the stillness, a part of this canvas that is created. The light creates an out of body experience. 

Although the rhythms of work may dull our senses, that cascade of light pouring into the stillness, offers us a quiet grace. The light arrives first, creating a ceremony out of the morning. There is a calm potential about the space, because the day is not yet consumed by all the to-dos and tasks. We are capable of wonder.

As the greens and yellows filter through the clear glass, there is a promise that comes with the day. The sunlight is a reminder of hope, bringing us warmth, comfort, and calm into the quick pace of our lives.
